Europe may be compact, but it packs in more scenery, culture, and unforgettable roads than you can imagine.

After 12 days on Tour des Alpes, your brain will be buzzing with memories—so many, it might take weeks to process it all. Thankfully, your camera roll will help you relive the magic. We’ve spent years riding through Italy, France and Switzerland, curating a killer lineup of hidden gems, iconic passes, and once-in-a-lifetime stops. It’s the kind of experience money technically can’t buy—unless, of course, you ride with Maschine.

Start your engines in the heart of Monza and set off on a 12-day luxury motorbike journey that weaves through some of Europe’s most spectacular scenery. From day one, you’ll know this isn’t just a ride—it’s a sensory experience on two wheels. Cruise the winding roads of Lake Como, where elegant villas dot the shoreline and espresso breaks come with sweeping views of the water and mountains.

From Lake Como, the route climbs into the heart of Switzerland, winding through pristine valleys and crystal-clear rivers on the way to Grindelwald. Framed by the mighty Eiger and surrounded by towering glaciers, this alpine village is the ideal base for a well-earned rest day. Explore mountain trails, indulge in Swiss hospitality, or simply take in the majesty of the Alps before continuing the ride.

Back on the road, the tour arcs south toward France, gliding through sweeping alpine passes to reach the lakeside charm of Annecy. From there, the adventure intensifies as you ascend the legendary hairpins of Alpe d’Huez, a climb synonymous with thrilling elevation and panoramic views. Each bend delivers a new perspective of the mountains—raw, majestic, and utterly exhilarating.

Descending into Provence, you roll into the warm, sunlit landscapes of Charols and onward to the rugged cliffs and canyon-carved roads of Castellane. The ride then points north into Briançon, a historic alpine fortress town where cobblestones, spires, and surrounding peaks create a storybook backdrop. Here, the roads are built for riders—smooth, twisty, and endlessly scenic.

The final stretch leads you back into Italy, through the dramatic mountain corridors on the approach to Aosta, before sweeping across the valleys toward Milan. As the city skyline comes back into view, you arrive not just at your starting point, but at the end of a journey filled with iconic passes, crystal lakes, and unforgettable alpine energy. Our European tours are all on-road but that will be adventure enough! Nick loves nothing more than studying maps and researching the hell out of locations to make for the most interesting riding you can imagine. Due to the tight twisty mountain passes we are mostly riding we would not recommend this tour for a beginner rider. You should be an experienced rider that will be OK riding on the “wrong” side of the road, can handle tight turns and endure the occasional hairy moment alongside a massive cliff edge with a dodgy looking guardrail by your side.

If you like a little bit of luxury in your life then you will love the accommodation we present you with on our tours. Typically at least 4 stars but each property is carefully selected to wow you in some way. Whether its location, views, food or just straight up pampering, when you climb off the bike after an action packed days ride you will be treated well.

Equally we love exploring the local food options and seek out memorable meals. Most meals are included too so you don’t have to stress about where to eat, we do all the research for you.

Maybe you’ve heard of some of these? And rightly so! If not, look them up and you will be salivating at the amazing roads and their views.

As we are travelling through multiple alpine passes, the riding will be challenging in places with many twisty roads, impossibly tight hairpins and some exhilarating days in the saddle. This is not a ride for the inexperienced rider. Although we will be riding on sealed roads, we can guarantee you it will still be an adventure!

This is a small group ride and pillions are most welcome. Depending on the group size we may also have a support vehicle following us which can carry passengers or some precious cargo.

The key to enjoying this trip is to soak up and enjoy the European way of life, go with the flow, enjoy your surroundings and the fabulous friends you’ll make along the way!

All arrangements on tour including motorcycle hire will be organised by us. All you have to do is book your flights to arrive into Milan by the nominated date and let Maschine take care of the rest!

To secure your place simply confirm your intentions with a $2,000 AUD deposit. We will invoice the remaining balance for your tour in Euro with the option of multiple payment instalments. These instalment payments will be via invoice paid in Euro currency (initial deposit paid in AUD).

Itinerary

Day 0 Arrive Monza, Italy

Beginning near Milan gives us all plenty of flight options to fly in.

We will first do a meet and greet at around 5pm at our hotel near Monza race circuit where you will meet the crew and we will run through the program for our tour. Later, we will enjoy a traditional Italian welcome dinner that evening before a good night’s rest.

Day 1 Milan > Lake Como

Breakfast at the hotel before we head to the rental depot to collect our motorcycles for the tour. A quick commute through the streets of Milan before heading out of the city. We can leave our big gear bags at the rental depot until we return.

Day 1 eases you into the adventure as you leave Milan’s lively streets for the calm, scenic roads leading to Lake Como. The ride shifts from urban buzz to rolling hills and lakeside curves, ending in Varenna’s postcard-perfect setting of pastel houses and shimmering water—an effortlessly beautiful start to the journey.

Day 2 Lake Como > Grindelwald

From the calm shores of Lake Como we head into the soaring drama of the Swiss Alps. The ride winds through crisp valleys, past waterfalls and emerald rivers, before climbing toward the towering peaks surrounding Grindelwald. Each kilometre brings cooler air, bigger views, and that unmistakable alpine energy—ending your day in a village framed by glaciers and rugged mountain walls. It’s a breathtaking shift from lakeside tranquillity to high-altitude wonder.

Day 3 Grindelwald Loop Day

Your day in Grindelwald offers the perfect blend of freedom and adventure. You can take the day to unwind—ride cable cars to glacier viewpoints, wander alpine trails, or simply relax in the fresh mountain air beneath the mighty Eiger. Or, if you’d rather stay on the bike, enjoy a stunning loop ride through the surrounding valleys and high passes, soaking up Switzerland’s most dramatic scenery. Whether you choose relaxation or more riding, it’s an unforgettable alpine day.

Day 4 Grindelwald > Annecy

Day 4 carries you from the dramatic peaks of Grindelwald into the softer, romantic charm of the French Alps. The ride sweeps through crisp Swiss valleys and over scenic mountain passes before descending into France, where the landscape shifts to lakes, meadows, and wide-open views. Rolling towards Annecy—known for its turquoise lake and historic old town—feels like arriving in an alpine fairytale. It’s a day of effortless beauty, smooth riding, and stunning transitions from rugged heights to water views.

Day 5Annecy > Alpe d'Huez

From the lakeside tranquillity of Annecy into the heart of France’s most iconic mountain terrain. The ride begins with gentle alpine curves and postcard villages before the road kicks upward toward the legendary climb to Alpe d’Huez. As the switchbacks stack beneath your wheels and the views widen with every ascent, the feeling shifts from scenic to spectacular. Reaching the top delivers a true rider’s high—panoramic peaks, crisp air, and that unmistakable sense of accomplishment that only a world-famous mountain pass can offer.

Day 6 Alpe d'Huez > Charols

Leaving behind the high Alpine switchbacks of Alpe d’Huez we’ll head towards the warm, rolling landscapes of Drôme Provençale. After descending from the famous mountain bends, the scenery shifts from sharp peaks to soft hills, lavender fields, and sunlit villages, turning the route into a smooth, scenic glide toward the peaceful countryside around Charols.

Day 7 Charols Loop Day

A day in Charols invites you to choose your own kind of magic. Stay in the village and soak up its easy Provençal charm—quiet lanes, sunny cafés, local artisans, and gentle walks through lavender-scented countryside. Or fire up the bike and dive into one of the stunning loops around Drôme Provençale, where rolling hills, twisty lanes, and timeless stone villages make every mile a pleasure. Whether you linger or explore, Charols delivers a day that feels effortlessly perfect.

Day 8Charols > Castellane

From gentle Drôme farmland we move into the rugged beauty of the pre-Alps. Rolling hills and quiet villages gradually give way to twistier roads, higher ridges, and the first dramatic cliffs of the Verdon region. As you ride south, the air grows fresher and the turns tighter, leading you through forested valleys and along sweeping viewpoints before you finally drop into Castellane, framed by its towering limestone peak and lively square—a perfect finish to a scenic, winding run.

Day 9 Castellane > Briançon

A burst of alpine riding kicks off the journey from Castellane to Briançon. The road climbs fast out of the Verdon foothills into sweeping bends, cliffside views, and cool mountain air. As you head north, the peaks grow taller and the scenery more dramatic—turquoise rivers, quiet villages, and high passes that deliver perfect switchbacks. By the time you arrive in Briançon, surrounded by its ancient walls and towering summits, you’ve experienced some of France’s most breathtaking mountain terrain.

Day 10Briançon > Aosta Valley

Leaving Briançon, the road quickly climbs toward high, open passes where jagged peaks and crisp mountain air set the tone for the day. The ascent to the French–Italian border is a mix of smooth sweepers and tight switchbacks, each one revealing bigger views than the last. Crossing into Italy, the landscape softens into wide valleys, glacier-cut slopes, and charming villages tucked between dramatic ridgelines. As you descend into the Aosta Valley, the scenery explodes with towering summits and postcard-perfect vistas—a grand, exhilarating run from fortress city to alpine paradise.

Day 11Aosta Valley > Milan (Monza)

From the Aosta Valley back to Milan is a relaxed, satisfying finale to the journey. You roll out of the mountains with one last look at the towering peaks before the road opens into broader valleys and finally the gentle plains leading toward the city. As Milan’s skyline comes into view, the pace shifts from alpine adventure to urban energy. After returning the bikes, we’ll head back to Monza settle into a well-earned farewell dinner—good wine, great food, and plenty of stories from the days on the road—celebrating the perfect close to an unforgettable ride.

Day 12Depart for home

Enjoy a final breakfast together at our hotel before we pack our bags and head for home or onto your next adventure in Europe.

FAQ

How hard is the riding?

This ride is classed as – Grade 2-3: Intermediate

Although this tour is all on bitumen roads they are anything but a cruise. We will traversing switchback hairpin turns, riding narrow mountain roads with huge drops, crazy Italian traffic and all of this is on the “wrong” side of the road.

How much motorcycle riding experience do I need to do this ride?

We expect riders on this tour to have several years riding experience – ideally two years. Although this is primarily a road tour at least some off-road riding experience may help as some roads can be much tighter and rougher than Australian roads.

For sure pillion passengers are welcome to be a part of this tour and they will find it to be an incredible experience. You will see and experience so much on the back of a motorcycle.

What is the size of the group doing this ride?

This ride will have 6 – 12 riders plus minimum of 2 tour guides

We find a maximum group size of 12 is great because it allows us to take you the most spectacular and unique restaurants and hotels during our trip.

Over the days you are sure meet and talk to everyone during the ride and make some new friends.

Do you rent motorcycles for this ride?

Yes, rental bikes are included in the tour pricing. If you have access to your own motorcycle in Europe then you are welcome to bring that along and we will adjust the tour pricing accordingly.

Can I bring my own motorcycle?

Yes. This ride is primarily for riders coming from Australia and renting a motorcycle but you can your own adventure or touring motorcycle.

How do I follow the planned routes?

We provide the pre-planned routes as a .GPX file you can load into your GPS or Smartphone navigation app. We typically stick together as a group during the day though using the cornerman system to aid with navigation with a lead rider guiding the way and a sweep rider keeping the bunch together.

Trusting our tour guide to lead the way will help you relax and take in the scenery or focus on the thrill of the road rather than stressing over getting lost.

We like to allow riders to go at their own pace and choose how quick or slow they take things. Riders safety is paramount so we can be assured that everyone arrives safely at the overnight stop.

For each event we also provide printed itineraries and route sheets which include an overview map and address details of overnight accommodation stops etc.

Do I need to carry my overnight luggage on my motorcycle?

Yes. For our international road tours we typically don’t provide a luggage support vehicle so you will have to carry your own luggage on your motorcycle. Usually our rental bikes come equipped with panniers and/or top box so you can secure your gear. Please confirm your required luggage options at time of booking.

Can I bring my wheelie gear bag to carry my overnight gear?

Yes. As our overseas tours start and finish at the same location we have the ability to leave your suitcases or wheelie gear bag at either the motorcycle rental depot or our hotel until we return at the completion of our tour.

Remember luggage weight limits at the airport though and also bear in mind you will have limited space on the bike to carry your overnight clothes and toiletries etc.

Can I ride with panniers or top box on my bike?

Yes. Typically our rental bikes come fitted with hard plastic or aluminium panniers and/or top boxes to carry your gear. Alternatively you may decide to travel light with just a dry bag that gets strapped on but keep security in mind for when our bikes are parked.

What gear/tools do I need to carry with me during the day?

We’ve got you covered here! Our tour guide and sweep rider will carry a full set of tools and first aid gear to deal with any small issues on the road. Typically the rental bikes will include some basics like a tyre puncture repair kit.

Do I need visas?

If you are an Australian resident you should not require a visa for the countries we are visiting. Please check the Smart Traveller website for travel requirements based on your situation.
